FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of producing sulphur from hydrogen sulphide-containing gas by Claus method includes a thermal step and at least one catalytic conversion step. Process gas is fed into a catalytic reactor 1, where it is heated and then subjected to catalytic treatment in a catalyst bed. The process gas is heated by mixing said gas with combustion products fed from a prechamber 5 built into the reactor and having a burner 4 for burning acidic and/or fuel gas. Catalytic treatment of the mixed gas is carried out by filtering through a horizontal catalyst bed 13. The mixed gas is fed through a stabilising device 12 with the possibility of piston movement along the axis of the apparatus and uniform filtration across the entire section of the catalyst. The catalytic reactor 1 is in form of a cylindrical apparatus with an area for heating process gas 2 and a catalyst area 3 arranged in series on the path of the gas.

EFFECT: invention reduces losses when extracting sulphur and sulphur dioxide emissions and prolongs the service life of the catalyst.
