INSTRUMENT FOR GRADUATED SCARIFICATION OF CORNEAL EPITHELIUM Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC A61F9/01

Abstract RU 2531471 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: instrument comprises a working portion on a working surface of which there are pins. The instrument comprises a hollow cylindrical body one end face of which is open, while a closed end face has the central flanged through hole; the working portion is built in the body and consists of a base, a side cylindrical surface and a working surface. The base and side cylindrical surfaces are congruent to the internal surface of the body. In its middle, the base is rigidly connected to a button by a spring rod passing through a body hole and reciprocating in relation to the body. The spring surrounds the rod between the button and the closed end face of the body. The working surface of the working portion faces the open end face of the body and is inverted after the corneal curve. The pins are 50-80 mcm long and presented in a number of 15-25 pins per cm2. The pins are arranged along the working surface, or the working surface comprises the pin-free sections in the form of a concentric ring or semi-ring with an inner radius of 5 mm and an external radius of 7 mm; a diameter of the working portion of the instrument makes 9-11.5 mm.

EFFECT: using the given invention enables performing uniform, graduated scarification of the corneal epithelium, including if observing the corneal segments pre-implanted into the cornea, with no risk of damaging the anterior layers of the stroma, and also provides more precise intraoperative alignment of the given instrument.
