FIELD: weapons and ammunition.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to armament and military equipment and can be used as an optical instrument protection device of special purpose. The optical instrument protection device includes an optical instrument that is arranged in a cylindrical protection housing having an opening. Besides, the housing is provided in its upper part with two levers located on a vertical axis and setting the movement trajectory of the gates opening and closing the opening in the cylindrical protection housing. Gates are brought into action with two drives located in the rear part and consist of two movable parts of different length, which are connected to each other by means of a hinge with possibility of being folded in a vertical plane. Besides, the gates are rigidly fixed in the rear part with shafts, the lower ends of which are installed in drive mechanisms transmitting rotational movement. The optical instrument protection device is fully automated.
EFFECT: achieving protection against environmental impacts and damages caused by bullets and fragments when in an travelling position; providing small dimensions of the protection device; increasing a field of view of an optical instrument when in a fire position.
