FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to flaw detection using ultra-high frequencies, and namely to methods for determining flaws of heat-protective and heat-insulating coatings of items of rocket-and-space engineering. The method involves recording of a characteristic of an electromagnetic UHF-field in a tested object on several frequencies, which differs by the fact that a UHF-sensor irradiates the tested object representing a layer of dielectric material bonded onto a load-carrying steel structure by a continuous multifrequency signal and scans line-by-line the outer surface of the tested object; with that, a signal reflected from the tested object is discretely recorded at a constant pitch for each of the frequencies; at recording of the reflected signal, interference of the latter with a reference signal of a generator occurs, as a result of which a radiogram is obtained, at further recovery of which on the received image there detected are flaws of internal composition of the tested object and surface defects at the tested object-metal boundary limit.
