FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to polarization devices. Method for rapid assessment of the fraction of aromatic hydrocarbons in light oil products, in which polarized light is passed through the oil product, simultaneously exposed to a longitudinal magnetic field, the electric-field vector of which is directed along the propagation of linearly polarized light, change of the polarization state of a light beam transmitted through the product under test is controlled and, according to this change, the fraction of aromatic hydrocarbons is determined, wherein the light is passed through the oil product in the forward and backward directions even number of times, the angle of rotation of the light polarization plane αx (Faraday effect) is recorded, and compared with the known value of the angle of rotation of the chemically pure toluene polarization plane, measured under the same conditions of the magnetic field strength and the light path length in the oil product, and the fraction of aromatic hydrocarbons is further determined in oil product Var according to the linear equation Var=C(αx/αtol.)+D=C KT+D, where αx, αtol. are angles of rotation of the light polarization plane of the oil product and toluene under test, measured under the same conditions; C, D are calibration factors; KT=αx/αtol. is a toluene coefficient.
EFFECT: technical result is convenience of rapid analyzes and portability of the device.
