FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to versions of a method of obtaining 1-(8-methoxy-4,8-dimethylnonyl)-4-(1-methylethyl)benzene, possessing a growth-regulative activity relative to different types of insect pests and representing a safe insecticide. The first version of the method consists in the fact that at the first stage (1) myrcene is subjected to the interaction with dialkylamine, selected from the group: dimethylamine, diethylamine, pyperidine, morpholine, in the presence of a catalyst, such as sodium or lithium, at a temperature of 50-60°C; obtained at stage (2) geranyldialkylamine is methoxylated by methanol in the presence of 1-1,2 equivalents of H2SO4 or HClO4 at 40-50°C with the formation of respective N-(7-methoxy-3,7-dimethyl-2E-octenyl)dialkylamine; at stage (3) obtained N-(7-methoxy-3,7-dimethyl-2E-octen-1-yl)dialkylamine is quaternised by ethyl- or methyliodide; then at stage (4) obtained N-(7-methoxy-3,7-dimethyl-2E-octenyl)trialkylammonium iodide is subjected to the cross-combination with a magnesium-organic compound, such as p-isopropylbenzylmagnesiumchloride, in the presence of a copper catalyst, represented by CuBr or Li2CuCl4 ata temperature of (-5)-(-10°C); at stage (5) obtained 1-(8-methoxy-dimethylnonen-3-yl-1)-4-(1-methylethyl)benzene is hydrated in the presence of the catalyst Pd/BaSO4 and AcOH in a solution of ethanol at atmospheric pressure and a temperature of 20-25°C.

EFFECT: versions of the method make it possible to obtain the target product with the high output.
