FIELD: medicine; pharmaceuticals.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to versions of a method for producing honokiol, which is a potential agent for treating cancer, heart diseases, multiple sclerosis, arthritis and osteoporosis, as well as to intermediate compounds and methods for production thereof and to versions of using intermediate compounds. One of the versions of the method of producing honokiol enables reaction of 2-tert-butyl-6-methylphenol with 2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol in the presence of a metal-based catalyst, where the metal is selected from chromium, copper, iron, manganese, ruthenium and vanadium, and an oxidising agent which is oxygen, to obtain 3,3'di-tert-butyl-5,5'-dimethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2,4'-diol and isolation of honokiol.
EFFECT: present invention enables to obtain high-yield honokiol.
