FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining benzylbutyl ether, which serves as a flavour for food products. The method consists in intermolecular dehydration of benzyl alcohol and n-butanol in the presence of a catalyst - copper (II) bromide CuBr2 at a temperature of 140-175°C for 2-10 h with a molar ratio of [CuBr2]:[BnOH]:[H-C4H9OH]=1-5:100:100-400.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to selectively obtain the target product with the high output with the application of an available and cheap catalyst.
