FIELD: printing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of checking the physical condition of valuable documents. The valuable document is illuminated with the illumination light and for image registration of valuable document the intensity of light reflected from the valuable document is measured by the image sensor. In the registered image its fragment is selected, showing an opaque, reflective part of the valuable document. This selected fragment of the image is examined for signs that indicate the possible presence of the creasy folds on the opaque, reflective part of the valuable document. The results of this study are used to assess the physical condition of the valuable document.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of their recognition.
