FIELD: physics, computer engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. A method of transmitting three-dimensional (3D) image data, wherein a 3D source device outputs a 3D display signal on a display via a high-speed digital interface such as HDMI. The 3D display signal comprises a series of frames. The series of frames comprises units, each unit corresponding to frames containing video information intended for combination and display as a 3D image. The 3D source device includes 3D transmission information comprising at least information on video frames in a unit. The display detects 3D transmission information and generates display control signals based on dependence on 3D transmission information. The 3D transmission information in an additional information frame packet comprises information on a frame multiplexing scheme for multiplexing in a 3D display signal, wherein the multiplexing scheme is selected from a group of multiplexing schemes which include multiplexing with frame alternation, frame alternation indicating said number of frames arranged in series in said period of video data.

EFFECT: high flexibility of transmitting 3D video signals to a display device.
