FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: laser ranging method includes transmitting a series of laser pulses to a target, receiving reflected signals and calculating range to the target. The first transmission to the target is carried out at wavelength λ2. During the interval between the series of laser pulses, one of two fixed wavelengths of the laser pulses is assigned for each next series, specifically the wavelength λ1 is selected for the range L>L0, and the wavelength λ2 is selected for the range L<L0.

EFFECT: method is used for laser emitters capable of operating at one of said two wavelengths.
