SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for determination of coefficient of traction of traction of wheel with artificial coating surfaces, mainly of landing strips of airfields, and also road coatings. The method is implemented using a braking method, when along the artificial coating surface a measuring wheel is rolled, which is braked according to the state of the coating surface. Meanwhile the normal force P of the measuring wheel load acting on the coating surface is determined. The moment of force M of traction of the measuring wheel with the coating surface is determined, and according to the obtained value of the moment of force M of traction of the measuring wheel the moment of force Mg of braking of the electromagnetic brake or other braking device is increased or decreased. Meanwhile the maximum braking force Pbr.max of the measuring wheel with the artificial coating surface is obtained and maintained, it is equal to the force F of traction of the measuring wheel with the coating surface (Pbr.max=F). The coefficient of traction Ktr is calculated by the formula Ktr=M/PR, R - radius of the measuring wheel.
