SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices and systems designed to estimate the artificial carpet surface state. The proposed method is implemented in natural conditions on airfield or motorway artificial carpet. In compliance with this method, a known vertical load (P) is applied onto the carper surface by means of metering wheel fitted on metering trolley. Note here that, additionally, lengthwise force (F) of adhesion between metering wheel and artificial carpet surface by varying torque (M) of electromagnetic brake. Also, torque (M) applied to metering wheel and corresponding to preset metering wheel skid magnitude origination is determined. The said metering wheel skid reveals at equal braking force Pb and force (F) of adhesion between the said wheel and the carpet surface. Then torque (M) of the electromagnetic brake is kept up continuously at preset level corresponding to that of preset skid of the metering wheel. At the same time, metering wheel torque (Mg) caused by force (F) of adhesion is continuously measured and recorded. Metering wheel torque (M) is produced by electromagnetic brake with its rotor connected to the metering wheel, the said torque being controlled by varying electromagnet coil current. Note that the factor of adhesion is determined by calculations.
