FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ICEs. Proposed engine consists of four units. Said unit comprises two opposed cylinders fitted on common shaft in split crankcase. Cylinder pistons are articulated by rods provided with pins arranged in symmetry relative to rod axes. Said units are located at flat quadrangular frame so that axes of four cylinders are located on one line. Two units make four-cylinder engine. The following shafts are arranged on said frame: primary shaft, counter shaft, power takeoff shaft and timing shaft. Primary and counter shafts are engaged via gears and flywheels with eccentric pins articulated with piston pins by con rods. Coupling shafts are provided with dog clutches to make fixed-turn-angle joint. Gears of coupling shat and primary shaft are in permanent engagement. Primary and counter shaft are engaged via gears. Shafts run in opposite directions to make piston move in opposition. Clutches are fitted on power takeoff shafts. Power takeoff shafts are coupled by dog clutch. Every said unit can run independently to allow higher reliability, fuel saving, decreased harmful emissions.
EFFECT: joint operation of said units allows reduction in vibrations.
