FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises one-time loading of material with an indenter by pendulum scribing; measuring scribing results; establishing a relationship between the measurement results and investigated physical-mechanical properties of materials and predicting operational properties of the compared materials; implementing a pendulum scribing mode, where an indenter at the beginning of interaction with a sample forms a rebound dimple on the surface of the sample; measuring, in the trace left by the indenter, the distance between the dimple and the main part of the indentation trace and judging physical-mechanical and operational properties of the compared materials based on said distance.

EFFECT: simple method of evaluating physical-mechanical properties of material with pendulum indentation, predicting efficiency of using compared materials in identical operating conditions by enabling ranking thereof according to indentation trace parameters measured during inspection.
