FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention is attributed to methods of sea water desalination as well as desalination of salty underground water in artesian springs for domestic and agricultural use. The method lies in filling with water of anode and cathode areas of a supercapacitor having porous electrodes with large inner surface, besides upon filling of anode and cathode volumes with water the supercapacitor is charged until voltage appears less than the voltage of oxygen and hydrogen evolution, then charging is stopped and desalinated water is drained from the supercapacitor cavities; thereafter the electrode cavities of the supercapacitor are filled again with water and the supercapacitor is discharged with energy accumulation outside the supercapacitor, upon its discharge the brine is drained. The device for the above method implementation consists of the supercapacitor body 1, valves 5, 6, 9, 19, a pump 7, desalinated water tank 8, high water level sensor in the supercapacitor 10, low water level sensor 11, porous cathode 2, porous anode 3, current converter 12, voltage converter 13, switchboard 14, voltage source 15, electric energy accumulator 16, control device 17, a through hole 18 ensuring interaction between water volumes in the anode and cathode part of the supercapacitor body 1.
EFFECT: reduction of energy costs for desalination.
