SUBSTANCE: method of recognising facial images comprises dividing recognition into detection and recognition, wherein detection includes inputting original colour facial images, transforming the colour images into halftone images, smoothing the halftone images, transforming the obtained images into spectra using two-dimensional cosine transform, removing high-frequency spectral components whose values are close to zero and recording the obtained spectra in a reference database; recognition includes inputting sketches, transforming the sketches into spectra using two-dimensional cosine transform, removing high-frequency spectral components whose values are close to zero, comparing the obtained test spectra with spectra stored in the reference database and making a decision on recognition based on a minimum distance criterion.
EFFECT: faster recognition of facial images from sketches and high universality thereof.
