FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: solid-state active element consists of intercrossed stacks of parallel plates arranged in series in a housing, each plate consisting of alternating activated and inactivated layers of the same length in optical contact. The thickness of the inactivated layer and the width of the activated layer are equal to the thickness of the plane. The central part of the end surfaces of the inactivated layers has an absorbing coating, and the edges of the end surfaces of the inactivated layers adjacent to the activated layers and all ends of the activated layers have an antireflection coating. Pumping radiation is transmitted to the activated layers via the inactivated layers through openings, windows or transparent walls of the housing.
EFFECT: reducing thermo-optic effect on intensity and divergence of laser beams, wider scaling range for power of compact lasers and optical amplifiers.
