FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming and can be used for production of complex-shape variable-cross-section solid pipes intended for, say, heat exchangers. Blank composed by long solid pipe is placed by grab on forging axis and locked by manipulator clamping head grip. Pipe free end is fed in forging unit unless manipulator head reaches extreme near position relative to the unit. Then pipe is reciprocated-and-rotated to be subjected to rotary reduction by flats. Flat working surface is shaped so that pipe diffuser part is, first, formed and, then, pipe confuser part. Rotary forging is performed at drawing cold conditions without on-the-fly part swapping of the pipe at 15-17 rpm. Pipe drawing speed makes 0.6-0.8 m/min, flat strike rate makes 800-810 imp/min, forging force makes 5000 kgf.
EFFECT: preset surface quality of outer and inner surfaces without extra machining.
