FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: patient with multiple sclerosis has functional magnetic resonant imaging using a simple locomotor paradigm. The imaging involves finger flexion/extension of both hands in the exacerbation state before a cortiocosteroid therapy and until neurological symptoms regress. An activation region volume in each cerebral hemisphere is measured in voxels. A lateralisation coefficient (K) is calculated as a relation of the activation volume in paretic hand action to the activation volume in non-paretic hand action. If K>1, the recovery is predicted as favourable, and K<1 shows the less favourable prediction that requires an adjunctive rehabilitation therapy.
EFFECT: method enables the early examinations aiming at obtaining the objective prediction of the patient's recovery that is ensured by determining a function lateralisation coefficient in motional load.
