FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radiation sources, particularly, to barrier discharge lamps and can be used in various branches of science and technology where illumination by UV or vacuum UV radiation is required, for example, in photochemistry, photobiology and photo ionisation instruments. Proposed radiation source comprises cylindrical bulb with flat outlet window filled with inert gas or its mix with halogen carrier, power supply connected to two electrodes, one electrode being perforated and arranged on outer surface of outlet window. HV electrode is arranged at cylindrical flask outer surface connected with buffer space. Position of HV electrode and diameters of outlet window and cylindrical flask are selected to inhibit breakdown over the flask outer surface.
EFFECT: simplified design, longer life higher power density.
