A method of decoding video comprises receiving a bit stream containing data obtained by encoding video; obtaining information on the maximum size of a conversion unit, information on the minimum size of the conversion unit, information on the maximum partitioning of an encoding unit with an internal mode, information on the maximum partitioning of the encoding unit with an external mode and information on the prediction mode of the current encoding unit from the bit stream; when the information on the prediction mode of the current encoding unit indicates an internal mode, determining the maximum level of partitioning of the prediction unit generated from the current encoding unit using information on the maximum partitioning of the encoding unit with an internal mode; when information on the prediction mode of the current encoding unit indicates an external mode, determining the maximum level of partitioning of the prediction unit generated from the current encoding unit using information on the maximum partitioning of the encoding unit with an external mode.
EFFECT: high efficiency of decoding video.
