FIELD: packaging industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to protection methods of radioactive (extremely dangerous) massive cargoes against intensive mechanical actions, and namely to design of containers for radioactive materials, the operation of which presupposes a possibility of transportation by air transport, at the crash of which intensive mechanical loads can act on the container with extremely dangerous cargoes, which lead to destruction of the cargoes and further large-scale radioactive contamination of the ground. The method involves arrangement of the radioactive cargo in a metal housing, in which the interior volume is filled with damping elements; with that, the housing and the damping elements are made from titanium alloy with yield point σ0.2≥600 MPa, with that, the damping elements are made in the form of hollow spheres, thickness of walls and radius of which is chosen based on reduction of acting intensive mechanical loads till safe levels, laying of the damping elements is performed equidistantly relative to the cargo housing in the form of at least three well-ordered rows separated from each other with thin-wall partitions from titanium alloy.
EFFECT: reduction of intensity of mechanical actions till levels at which acting loads under conditions of possible aircraft crashes on radioactive cargoes do not lead to cargo damages.
