FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method includes illuminating welded joints fitted with defect sample-imitators with ionising radiation and determining the type and size of the detected defects of the welded joints; measuring, during angular illumination, the angle α between the direction of illumination and the plane of the welded joint; measuring, on the picture, the length Lpr. of the projection of defects of the type of pores stretched on the cross-section of the joint and calculating the size of said defects on the cross-section of the joint Δdsec. for the condition of vertical orientation thereof in the plane of the joint; and during normal illumination - in the direction of the plane of the joint, with impossible or difficult comparative estimation of the size Δdsec. of vertical pores, using defect sample-imitators, the method includes performing additional illumination of the welded joint at an angle to the plane of the joint and calculating the size Δdsec., similarly to that performed with angular illumination, based on the measured illumination angle α and the measured length Lpr. of the projection of the vertical pores on the additional picture.
EFFECT: high information value and reliability of radiographic inspection of welded joints.
