FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: wheel surface is illuminated with laser beams and scattered light parameters unambiguously indicating dynamic parameters of the wheel are measured; at the same time local linear speeds are measured at two points at different known distances from the rail. An instantaneous angular speed is found as the ratio of difference of the measured local speeds to the distance equal to the difference of distances from those points to the rail surface. An instantaneous rotation radius is found as the ratio of the local movement speed of the wheel axle in the direction parallel to the rail to the instantaneous angular speed. In the light scattered with the tread surface there measured and recorded are Doppler frequency shifts along the whole trajectory of intersection of a laser beam with the tread surface. A tread surface profile is found as a product of the wheel tread circle radius by the Doppler frequency shift in the light scattered at the point of trajectory of the laser beam intersection with the tread surface, which is normalised to the Doppler frequency shift in the light scattered at the point corresponding to the tread circle radius.
EFFECT: improving the measurement accuracy of the wheel tread surface profile of a moving rolling stock.
