FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of measuring wheel parametres of railway rolling stock involves illumination of the surface of the wheel with laser beams and measuring parametres of the scattered light which uniquely reflect dynamic parametres of the wheel. Local linear velocities are simultaneously measured in two points at different known distances from the rail. Instantaneous angular velocity is calculated as the ratio of the difference between the measured local velocities to distance which is equal to the difference between distances from these points to the surface of the rail. The instantaneous radius of rotation is calculated as the ratio of local velocity of the axis of the wheel in the direction parallel the rail to the instantaneous angular velocity. The current geometrical radius of the wheel is defined as the sum of the known distance from the surface of the rail to the lower point in which local velocity is measured, and the ratio of the difference between liner velocities of the axis of the wheel and its surface on the lower of the two points to the instantaneous angular velocity. The linear slip velocity is calculated as the product of the difference between current values of the radius of rotation and the geometrical radius of the wheel and the instantaneous angular velocity.
EFFECT: high accuracy of real-time measurement of the geometrical radius of the wheel and slip velocity of wagon wheels.
