SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering and can be used to counteract equipment for secret interception of audio information for searching for, detecting and locating concealed acousto-electric transducers (AET). The method includes simultaneously irradiating a region of possible location of an AET with a probing radio signal and an acoustic test signal in the form of a composite acoustic signal, receiving the radio signal reradiated by the AET, detecting the received radio signal, performing cross-correlation processing of the detected signal with the acoustic test signal and determining the presence of an AET based on the presence of a correlation peak formed by components of the acoustic test signal in the reradiated radio signal due to modulation thereof by the acoustic test signal, estimating the distance from the acoustic system to the AET based on the delay of the correlation peak. An apparatus which implements the method includes an acoustic test signal generating unit, an acoustic system, a radio signal transmitting and receiving unit, a detector and a correlation processing and analysis unit. The listed components are made, arranged and connected to each other in a certain manner.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities and high probability of detecting an acousto-electric transducer.
