FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: test is carried out, it implies the introduction of a striker into the material to be tested and further numerical simulation of this process and, during parameter calculation, variation of the function connecting the yield strength of soil with the pressure, up to the decrease of a difference between the results of the numerical simulation and the test down to the experimental error value, according to the proportions with selected parameters there determined are strength characteristics of soil in the range of dynamic loads implemented in the test. The striker is thrown by a ballistic installation with the velocity at which the intense plastic deformation of the striker with the reduction of its length takes place in the course of penetration. The striker length shall exceed its diameter by at least 4 times. The penetration process is registered by X-ray or proton radiography, and the profile of the formed cavity and the length of the non-deformed striker part at the moment of registration are determined in the sample being tested.

EFFECT: higher information value by providing for the determination of the yield stress of materials, and the invariance of physical-mechanical properties of the tested material before a strike.
