FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a steel substrate with a wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant coating and a method of producing said substrate. The method includes preparing a steel substrate, coating said substrate with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) containing layer, said DLC containing layer having pin holes, closing at least some, preferably most, most preferably essentially all pin holes of the DLC containing layer by a layer of silicon (Si) containing material different from the material forming the DLC containing layer. The DLC containing layer is doped with silicon and concentration of silicon in at least some of the pin holes of the DLC containing layer is higher than the average concentration of silicon in the DLC containing layer.
EFFECT: improved corrosion resistance of the substrate without deterioration of wear-resistance of the coated surface.
