SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems and methods of damping of surges generated by the reciprocation equipment. It has a surge damper of pulsations for minimising of unfavourable effect of surges generated by a piston compressor in process fluid medium. The surge damper can be installed near the surge source and outside of the main path of movement of process fluid medium compressed inside the piston compressor. In some versions of implementation a surge damper can be designed as a valve chamber for surge damping, which comprises, at least partially, valving of the piston compressor. The valve chamber for surge damping can be filled with surge damping material, such as a wire grid, visco-elastic material, elastomer or their combination. The power consumption by the piston compressor is minimised.
EFFECT: due to the use of valve chambers for surge damping the total cost of the piston compressor assembly is decreased.
