FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to application of coating on converter used for production of sponge titanium. Electrolyte composed of the mix of water solution of iron chloride and hydrochloric acid is filled in the converter. Five soluble electrodes of low-carbon steel are fitted in said electrolyte. Coating of metal iron is applied electrolytically on converter surface. DC source positive terminal is connected to converter cover while its negative terminal is connected to converter flange. Cover with electrodes is removed from converter to remove electrolyte, converter is placed inclined at the bench for flushing from inside by water. This converter is placed in vacuum electric kiln and device for titanium plating with sponge titanium as metalizing agent is placed inside the converter. Converter is heated to apply thermally diffused titanium coating on its surface at high-temperature holding. Then, converter is removed from said kiln and fitted in cooling device. Cooled converter is directed for production of sponge titanium.
EFFECT: higher quality of sponge titanium, longer life of converter.
