SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a compound of the formula given below or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The disclosed method includes a step of reacting a primary amine of formula

or a salt thereof with an ester of 2-(bromomethyl)benzoic acid of formula in the presence of an inorganic base. In said formular, R is C₁-₈alkyl; each of R¹ and R² is independently an alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group with 1-4 carbon atoms; R³ is an alkyl with 1-8 carbon atoms; and one or X¹, X², X³ and X⁴ is independently NHC(O)R^6', NO₂ or NH₂, and the others are hydrogen; and R^6' is C₃-C₈cycloalkyl.

EFFECT: providing an alternative method of producing 2-(1-phenylethyl)isoindolin-1-one compounds on an industrial scale with high output.
