FIELD: physics, computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering and can be used in digital stream decoders. The method comprises the following steps: forwarding information symbols and redundant check symbols from a communication channel to a decoder; converting said symbols into syndrome register symbols; forwarding to a threshold element; calculating an estimate of values of the information symbols of the used code; comparing the result with threshold values; making a decision on the need to change the symbol of the used code; wherein the threshold element forms operating and frequency memory arrays to which check symbols are forwarded; adding an unit to the cell of the operating array with the number of the value of the next check and writing a value xn into the next, starting from the first, cell of the frequency array; browsing the frequency array; selecting the two most frequent check values; using said values as an estimate of error values in the information symbols of the used code to make a decision on the need to change the decoded symbol.
EFFECT: higher rate of decoding.
