FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to traumatology and orthopaedics, and is applicable in reconstructive surgeries when using bone cement with biologically active substances. The surgical procedure involves determining target size and shape of a cavity to be filled with the spacer. Both portions of the bone cement are mixed in the sterile environment. The spacer is shaped and sized as desired. The spacer is manufactured with the use of industrial bone cement containing an antibiotic. During the period the bone cement surface stays viscous, the whole spacer surface is covered with thermally stable antibiotic powder. The powder is pressed into the spacer surface, and the antibiotic is embedded into superficial layers of the bone cement. A maximum temperature rise of the bone cement is waited for 8-10 minutes, and the spacer is mounted on the prepared surface of the bone elements of the joint.
EFFECT: method enables providing the more effective output of the antibiotic contained in the bone cement and simplifying the process of spacer removal from the bone.
