FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: active element of an alkali metal vapour laser includes a chamber with active medium and optical windows which are transparent for laser radiation. The walls of the chamber have tubular annular sections which separate optical windows from the walls. Each annular section is metallic, has a finned internal surface and is provided with a cooling jacket which surrounds the external surface of the section. Inside each section there are metal diaphragms with holes, the diameter of which matches the size of the cross-section of the laser beam. The active medium is a mixture of at least one buffer gas and alkali metal vapour. The cooling jacket of the section has an annular channel in which a coolant (liquid or gas) circulates.

EFFECT: low probability of precipitation of alkali metals on the windows of the cuvette and interaction thereof with materials of the windows and antireflection coatings.
