FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention may be used in repair or laying continuous welded rail track at ambient negative temperatures using aluminothermic welding. Prior to starting works tent from incombustible material is arranged at work site. Air and rail ends located in said tent are preheated to positive temperatures and heated directly before welding. Welding is performed by fusing thermit mix and filling fused metal into gap between rail ends. Preheating to positive temperature is made by torch with decreased flame power compared with that in heating for welding. In cooling welded joint, temperature in tent and at rail ends is kept to prevent forming of quenching structures by additional heat sources.
EFFECT: high-quality weld joints.
