SUBSTANCE: inventions can be used in coal-tar industry. Method of coal preparation for the coke production includes coal loading in tank to receive sample, on which material with through holes is arranged, the holes pass downwards, the sample is heated, and distances of the melted sample penetration in the specified through holes are measured. Distance of penetration of the individual coal grade is determined at specified value or value below the set one. The set value of the penetration distance of the prepared coal grade is determined by equations: penetration distance = 1.3 x a x logMFc (1) or penetration distance = a' x logMFc+b(2), where a and a' are constants from 0.7 to 1.0 of coefficient logMF, obtained by measurement of the penetration distance, and logMF value of at least one coal grade that complies with the condition logMF < 2.5, and plotting of the regression line that passes through reference point, using the measured values, and where MFc is maximum Gieseler fluidity for the coal to be prepared, and where b is constant determined using average value of standard deviation of the penetration distance or higher than average value multiplied by 5 or lesser. Set value of the penetration distance shall be 15 mm or shall be average penetration distance of coal grades multiplied by 2 or higher.
EFFECT: inventions ensure more accurate thermal plasticity of coal and sintering additive, and production of high strength metallurgical coke.
