SUBSTANCE: inventions may be used in chemical-recovery industry. The method to assess thermoplasticity of coals or sintering additives includes packing of coal or sintering additive into a reservoir to produce a sample, placement of the packed layer from particles on the sample, heating of the sample maintaining at the same time the sample and the packing layer with the permanent volume or with application of permanent load at the packing layer, measurement of penetration distance, representing thermoplasticity of coal, onto which the melted sample penetrates into cavities of the packing layer, and assessment of sample thermoplasticity using the measured value. The method to produce a coke includes measurement of penetration distance, which represents coal thermoplasticity, in respect to coal or coals, which must be added to a mixture of coking coals and which have logarithmic value of maximum Gieseler fluidity, logMF, not below 3.0. They determine ratio of mixing by detection of coal proportions having logarithmic value of maximum Gieseler fluidity, logMF, not below 3.0, so that the weighted average of the measured distance or distances of penetration is not more than 17 mm.

EFFECT: inventions make it possible to more accurately assess coal and sintering additive thermoplasticity and to produce high-strength metallurgical coke.
