FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aluminium oxide-based sulphur recovery catalyst and a method for production thereof. The catalyst has specific surface area of at least about 350 m2/g, pore volume of at least about 0.40 ml/g, and volume of pores having pore diameter of at least 75 nm of at least about 30% of the pore volume. The aluminium oxide-based catalyst according to the present invention is made of instantaneously annealed aluminium oxide, pseudo-boehmite and optionally binder. The present invention also relates to the use of the aluminium oxide-based sulphur recovery catalyst and to a sulphur recovery method using said catalyst.
EFFECT: developing sulphur recovery catalysts having a large specific surface area.
