SUBSTANCE: method includes receiving and parsing a bitstream containing encoded video data; obtaining, from the bitstream of encoded data, information on dividing a coding unit, information on encoding, information on the operating mode of the encoding tool; decoding the coding unit in a maximum coding unit. In the method, the maximum coding unit is hierarchically divided into one or more coding units with depths which include the current depth and a lower depth, in accordance the division information.
EFFECT: high efficiency of encoding and decoding high-resolution images by determining the depth of the coding unit and the operating mode of the encoding tool according to data characteristics of the image.
