FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a portable electronic device equipped with one or more adjustable proximity sensors. According to this invention, proximity sensors of the portable electronic device can be adjusted for operation in multiple and/or different modes depending on the environment of the device. An adaptive sensor is dynamically adjusted based on different criteria. Namely, settings are based on comparison of input signals (442) from one or more sensors of device (430), data signals received from processor (432) of the device, and/or external data signals received from external source (434), which provide characteristic values (444) for characteristics (436, 438, 440) of the environment, the context and/or the surrounding light. Settings are made with regard to pulse strength (460) for influence on radius of action of sensor (466), frequency (462) of pulse, filtration of noises of input signal (464) of the sensor for suppression of interference and a spectrum of a proximity sensor.
EFFECT: optimisation of functional capabilities of proximity sensors and minimisation of their energy consumption.
