SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing within a computing environment, particularly conversion of data from one format to another. The technical result is achieved through machine instructions which read data from memory, convert said data into a corresponding floating-point decimal format and write said data into a target floating-point register or a pair of floating-point registers. The invention also provides machine instructions which convert a floating-point decimal operand in a source floating-point register or a pair of floating-point registers into data and storing said data in a target memory cell.
EFFECT: simplification of compiled code and improved efficiency, particularly efficiency of memory to memory operations.
