FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a glycidal ester of a branched monocarboxylic acid, which includes reacting an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of formula R1R2R3CCOOH, wherein R1, R2 and R3 each independently denote an alkyl radical with a normal or branched structure containing 1-20 carbon atoms, and an epoxy alkyl halide containing 3-13 carbon atoms, the presence of a catalyst, wherein the epoxy alkyl halide enters into a coupling reaction with the aliphatic monocarboxylic acid to form an intermediate reaction product containing a halohydrin, with molar ratio between the epoxy alkyl halide and the aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of more than 1 to not more than 1.5; the epoxy alkyl halide is added to the aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, while cooling the reactants or the reaction mixture such that the temperature of the reaction mixture is constantly in the range of 55°C to less than 80°C, and such that the epoxy alkyl halide and aliphatic monocarboxylic acid react at a temperature of 55°C to 80°C, the unreacted epoxy alkyl halide is left in the reaction product by avoiding distillation, and the reaction product undergoes a cyclisation reaction under the condition that the catalyst is selected from a group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates, alkali-earth metal hydroxides, alcoholates of alkali or alkali-earth metals; ammonium salts and phosphonium salts.
