FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radar meteorology and may be used to measure size of hail particles in the area of their growth. Substance: according to data of aerological probing of atmosphere, they build a curve of temperature variation and speed of ascending air flows by height of the cloud. According to this curve they determine the value of maximum speed of ascending flows in the layer of the cloud environment in the area of negative temperatures. Then radar probing of the cloud is carried out at one wave length. Using data of radar probing, they perform horizontal sections of isocontours of radar reflectivity of cloud environment near the level of maximum speed of ascending flows. They determine the value of maximum reflectivity of cloud environment, with account of which they calculate the maximum size of hail particles in the area of their growth.

EFFECT: simplified measurement of size of hail particles in the area of their growth.
