FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for desulphuration of petroleum oil, which includes a step of diluting crude petroleum oil with a suitable organic solvent before a desulphuration reaction. The organic solvent is selected from alkanes, alkenes, cyclic alkenes and alkynes. Solvent concentration in the mixture of crude petroleum oil and solvent is in the range of 0.1-70%. The mixture of petroleum oil and solvent reacts with sodium at a temperature in the range of 240-350°C and pressure in the range of 0-500 lb/in2 (0-3.45 MPa) for 15 minutes to 4 hours while stirring to obtain an end mixture containing desulphurated petroleum oil.
EFFECT: low content of asphaltene in petroleum oil, improved viscosity of desulphurated petroleum oil, low content of residual sodium.
