SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electric vacuum cleaner that autonomously moves and cleans the surface to be cleaned. According to one embodiment, the electric vacuum cleaner 11 comprises: the rotary side brushes 18, each of which having bristles 32b interacting with the floor surface F and located in front of the suction port on the lower part of the main housing 12; an obstacle detection unit 21 to detect whether the rug R interfering with the autonomous movement is located under the main housing 12; and a control device lifting upwards the side brushes 18 when the obstacle detection unit 21 detects that the rug R interfering with the autonomous movement is under the main housing 12.

EFFECT: ability of unobstructed movement of the electric vacuum cleaner on the surface to be cleaned.
