FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: optical system is a conical element made of refracting material with a vertex angle which provides total internal reflection of radially polarised radiation travelling towards the vertex of the cone in parallel to its axis. A metal nanosphere is attached to the vertex of the cone. The reduction of the size of the light spot on the optical axis to sub-wavelength size is carried out by concentrating electromagnetic radiation in the immediate vicinity of the surface with small radii of curvature and is determined by the size of the metal nanosphere.

EFFECT: reducing the diameter of a light spot when focusing electromagnetic radiation.
