FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: diffraction optical element is a thin plate. On one of the surfaces of the plate there is a microrelief in form of a circular diffraction grating with a rectangular profile. The period of the diffraction grating is comparable with the wavelength. The diffraction optical element is made of two sections lying on different sides of the diameter line perpendicular to the polarisation plane. Circular zones in one section are shifted by half the period of the circular grating from circular zones in the other section.

EFFECT: reduction of the size of the light spot to subwavelength dimensions, reduced asymmetry of the spot.
