FIELD: fire safety.

SUBSTANCE: method of extinguishing fires in open areas comprises creation over the open burning object of closed volume of gases with the formation of an impenetrable casing against entering of an oxidant to the burning object. The closed volume is formed from the fire retardant fabric which is placed around the perimeter of the fire hazardous object. A tent is formed from the fabric, inside which the products of combustion are accumulated. The tent is made with the ability to reduce the volume by twisting. When twisting of the tent its volume will be reduced, and the products of combustion contained in it will flow down to the fire seat, reducing the intensity of burning.

EFFECT: method enables to increase the safety and efficiency of fire extinguishing, reduces time for its elimination.
