FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: paravertebral segments of four or five ribs, excluding the first rib, are excised subperiosteally from a single paravertebral approach. Intercostal muscles are incised from the spinal column to the posterior axillary line above the upper intact rib. An anterior segment of the second rib is excised. The intercostal muscles are transected in the first intercostal space from the spinal column to the midclavicular line. The ribs are brought down and fixed to a posterior segment of the underlying intact ribs by means of ligatures. The second rib is fixed to a transverse process of the fourth thoracic spine.
EFFECT: method enables reducing a risk of injuries to major vessels and preventing upper limb dysfunctions.
